Here you trust me with things that are not easy to say. That is why this corner is built so that I know as little about you as possible. Below you will find, simply and honestly, what I keep, why, for how long, and what your rights are.
At a glance
- I do not ask for your name or phone number. An email only if you ask for notes about new posts.
- Your messages are stored without your IP address or device details.
- There are no tracking or advertising cookies, and no third-party tools that follow you.
- I do not sell or give your data to anyone.
- Whatever you write to me is deleted automatically after 12 months.
Who is responsible
The data controller is: The Cozy Talk. For anything about your data, write to me at hello at thecozytalk dot com.
What I keep and why
When you send me a message ("Start a talk"). I keep your text and, if you fill them in, the topic, the nickname and your choice about publishing. I need them to read and reply. Because you may tell me about your health or other sensitive matters, this happens only with your explicit consent: you give it when you tick that you have read this policy and send your message (Articles 6(1)(a) and 9(2)(a) GDPR). Your IP address, browser, device and location are not stored. If you allow it, I publish the talk with my reply, with details changed so that nobody can recognise you.
Your talk's code. As soon as you send me a message, you get a code (talk-…) to see whether it arrived, whether I have read it and whether I have answered. Only you know the code: I keep only an encrypted fingerprint of it, from which the code itself cannot be recovered, and I cannot see who is looking. It is deleted together with the message.
Email updates (only if you ask for them). If you enter your email on the updates page, I keep it with your language and the dates you signed up and confirmed, so that I can send you a note when something new is published (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR). You first have to confirm it from your own inbox. Every note has a link to stop with one click, and the address is then deleted at once. I do not track whether you open the emails or what you click.
**When you leave "warm words" (comments). I keep the text and, if you give one, a name or nickname. I do not ask for an email and I do not keep your IP. Comments appear after I have read them.
In the Cozy Chat (live chat). I keep the nickname and the messages you write there, and they are deleted automatically after 7 days. So that I can stop anyone who is abusive, I keep an encrypted fingerprint of your connection, not the IP address itself: it is deleted after a day, unless there is a mute or a ban, in which case it is kept for as long as that lasts. A functional cookie recognises your browser in the chat for one day.
The weather outside. Without you doing anything, I show the weather in a few cities. If you press "The weather where you are" and allow it, your browser gives me your location rounded to about 10 kilometres. My server asks a weather service for the weather with those rounded coordinates only, never with your IP address. Nothing is stored. Your browser only remembers that you said "yes", so it does not ask again.
The radio. When you press play, your browser connects directly to the Radio Paradise servers (USA), which see your IP address like any website you visit. Nothing starts unless you press play. The channel and volume you choose stay only in your browser.
Spam protection. The forms are protected with ALTCHA: a small puzzle is solved in your browser. It uses no cookies and sends nothing to third parties.
Visit statistics. I count how many people read each page with Koko Analytics, which runs on my own server, without cookies and without personal data. It keeps only totals.
Language. The first time you open the home page, the delivery network tells me only the country you are connecting from, so I can open it in Greek or in English. The country is not stored anywhere. After that, a small cookie remembers the language you chose.
Cookies. There are only technical cookies: for the language you chose, for those who write on the site (login) and for your nickname in the Cozy Chat. Because they are necessary for what you ask for, no consent banner is needed.
Where it is kept
Everything is kept inside the European Union, with partners (hosting, page delivery, backups, sending email) who are bound by contract to protect it and use it for nothing else (Article 28 GDPR).
Automatic translation. Whatever is published on the site, already anonymous and with details changed, is translated automatically so that it also exists in the other language. The messages you send me are never translated and never sent anywhere for translation.
Only I read your messages.
For how long
- Your messages: 12 months, then deleted automatically.
- Published talks: while they are on the site, as edited anonymous text.
- Comments: while they are published, or until you ask for them to be deleted.
- The Cozy Chat: 7 days.
- Your talk's code: as long as the message exists.
- Email for updates: until you stop them. If it is never confirmed, it is deleted after 7 days.
- Backups: rotated, with old copies deleted.
Age
The Cozy Talk is for people aged 15 and over. If you are younger and need help, in Greece call 1056 (The Smile of the Child).
Your rights
You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict and port your data, to object, and to withdraw your consent at any time. Because I do not know who you are, write to me at hello at thecozytalk dot com with roughly when you sent the message and a few words from it, so I can find it. I reply within one month.
If you believe something was not handled properly, you can complain to the Hellenic Data Protection Authority (Kifisias 1-3, 115 23 Athens, www.dpa.gr).
Security
All communication is encrypted (HTTPS). Backups are encrypted, access to the administration is protected with two-step verification, and old messages are deleted automatically.
Changes
If anything in this policy changes, I will update the date at the top of this page. For important changes I will also add a note on the home page.
