Eva, I got a promotion last month. Everyone congratulated me and all I could think was that at some point they’ll realize I don’t deserve it.
It’s always like this. Whatever I manage to do, a voice inside me says it should have been better.
Hi. That voice speaks very loudly, but it isn’t telling the truth. It’s telling an old habit.
Lots of people who succeed feel exactly like this. The more they try, the higher the bar rises, and joy never gets the chance to arrive.
“You don’t need to deserve something to be allowed to enjoy it.”
Keep a little notebook. Every night write down one thing you did well today, no matter how small. At first it’ll feel silly. After a while, you’ll have proof that voice can’t ignore.
And if the voice weighs on you too much, a psychotherapist can help you understand where it came from. You deserve that care.
With warmth, Eva
